I have been listening to and collecting OTR for over 6 years now.  Like many under 50 OTR fans, I was first exposed to radio dramas listening to the CBS Radio Mystery Theater. 

Later, I found that there were many people with Old Time Radio Shows that they would share with others.  I built up a substantial collection over the years.  As my hard drive would fill up, I would have to agonize over what shows to delete to make room for more.  Eventually, I would buy a bigger hard drive, then that would fill up and I would repeat the process over and over again. 

I have been sharing files with others through various Peer to Peer (P2) sharing software as well as running an FTP server for over a year.

Although there are many people sharing OTR files, the vast majority of people who have an interest in it have no idea where to find it other than some of the people who sell disks that they have compiled from others who have collected them. 

I have been flirting with the idea of putting together a website with not just a few of my favourite series with a few Megs of shows for download, or with an internet 'radio station' broadcasting a rotation of shows on a schedule.  I wanted to make available a wide spectrum of shows, embracing many different shows, reaching many different interests and people.  The site would have to have the capacity for not just MEGABYTES of shows, but HUNDREDS of GIGABYTES making up tens of thousands of episodes. 

This sounds easy, but web space isn't cheap and the huge amounts of bandwidth a site like this requires doesn't come easy either.   I toyed with the idea of hosting a server at home, using my cable internet connection.  It worked years ago for my FTP server... I decided against it because the bandwidth (speed) of downloads would be way to slow over the cable modem, and now, the phones and everything else use the internet connection, so that would be unacceptable.

I finally found a web host that could offer me everything I needed to make this site a reality.

On 12.31.08, this site was born.  i made a basic web site and I started uploading files right away.  As you probably noticed, my web design skills wouldn't win any awards! 

The first day the site was online with only about 5.5 Gigs of content, it had almost 600 Mb of downloads.  The second day with about 12 Gigs of content, the downloads were 1.6 (or so) Gigs, so clearly, there are people interested!

It seems that I can upload about 5 Gigs of content each day, and I currently have about 300 Gigs of material to upload, and I'm told that there is about another 300 Gigs of OTR that is available, it looks like I'll be at this for quite some time.

I hope to continue building and maintaining this online file library for many years as a source for FREE OTR downloads. 

I plan on adding a 'guest book' and a forum for otr discussions and more in the coming weeks (months?)

I also plan on adding categories at a later date, adding series descriptions, posting episode logs where available.  All the material on this site is believed to be in the public domain.  I will have to do more research before posting episode logs as someone compiled them and may have copy writes on them, or at least want source credit.  I'll figure out what I am going to do about things like that after I get the file library uploaded.
